Today, I finally caught up and watched the 60 Minutes segment on the art market that people in the art world have have been talking/tweeting about since Saturday. But what I really liked was collector Adam Lindemann’s response response, where he argues that the context for much of this art is crucial to its understanding, which is a point that Morley Safer seems to miss in his preoccupation with the sums of money being exchanged for these works. All this to say that the segment does not reveal anything new to those familiar with the contemporary art world, nor does it do much to help clarify it to those interested in understanding further.
